Some people arrive in your life so quietly that you don’t realise they’re about to change it forever.

I met her at a mutual friend’s birthday party in London. We spoke for what felt like only a few minutes, yet both of us somehow knew we had found someone who simply made sense. From that day on, our friendship became effortless.
One afternoon she called and said, “Be ready in twenty minutes.”
Before I could ask why, she had already hung up.
She drove me to one of London’s most extravagant places—a world I had never imagined walking into. Everything around me felt unfamiliar, beautiful, and completely out of place.

While we stood in front of enormous mirrors inside the restroom, she looked at me and said something that quietly changed my life.
“Fall in love with yourself first. However you choose to live, live it confidently. Enjoy every fucking moment.”
Those words never left me.
They arrived at exactly the moment I was learning to love myself—not because life was becoming easier, but because I was beginning to stop asking permission to be myself.
She also taught me something else.
That life isn’t divided into neat categories of right and wrong. Much of it depends on intention, awareness, and perspective. That understanding slowly loosened many of my fears, guilt, and judgments.
Looking back, I don’t remember the expensive place.
I remember how seen I felt.

I remember long bus rides with one earphone each, singing Count on Me together.
I remember casinos where she somehow won every single time.
I remember hugs after difficult days.

More than anything…
I remember feeling that no matter what happened, someone had quietly chosen my side.
